the update, for those of you who still read this thing.
i'm officially divorced. well, dissolute. my marriage, as it turns out, was soluble in the state of ohio. of course, if you soak anything in ohio long enough, it comes out sort of smelling like yuengling these days.
i'm in a relationship of about a year and a half. we live together in a townhouse with the cats and six functioning guitars (two acoustic, one electric, three hero). neither of us plays anything much more complicated than strumming "american pie" during impromptu singalongs at parties. we're karaoke regulars.
i walked for my diploma a year ago. before the ink had even dried, i'd busied myself with grad school. it's composition and rhetoric, which is very useful if you plan to teach college freshmen. i do not plan to teach college freshmen. i do, however, plan to put off paying back loans as long as humanly possible. i have an option to switch to grad school next year in colorado (technical communication and public relations), but i also have a good job for the first time in a while, so we'll see what happens.
i'm not going to talk about my job here, other than to say it's good. if you want to know more, send me a private message.
a couple friends of mine are really involved in the Occupy protests here. i'm sad to say i've been mostly hanging back from the whole scene, apart from a few indignant tweets directed at bloomberg. i don't know why i'm so afraid to talk about it. i'm pretty clear on what i'm mad about.
tomorrow i'm going to spend thanksgiving with my mom, brother, sister-in-law, and nephew. this time next month, i may have a new niece (my sister is having this baby--SIL gets a break!). i'm happy to be an aunt. my nephew is totally the most adorable kiddo you have ever seen. (if you have kids of your own, they can be first, i suppose.) ;)
now that i have rebooted this thing, should i post more?

too long since i last updated, i know. i'm sort of losing my mind. i'm getting divorced, i'm dating, and i've been staying at a friend's house since october. i'm trying like hell to finish my undergraduate degree, and i'm slipping in my classes. on the other hand, i've been doing a lot of indoor rock climbing...
i'm taking 18 credits this quarter. 2 of them have already been completed, for laying out fogdog. my other classes are enhancing creativity; gays and lesbians in film; literary theory II; and plate tectonics. i am way behind in the plate tectonics class, which is online. i think i am going to withdraw so i don't fail and don't have to worry about it anymore. i like the material a lot, but i don't like the way the class is taught. it'll show up as a W on my transcript, and i won't get any money back, but at least it'll be done. my film class is another issue. i love that class and the instructor is one of my favorites, but my attendance has been less than stellar. at this point, i don't think i can get better than a C in the class. if i can go pass/fail on the class, i'll keep it. if not, i may have to drop it, too. my grades are still okay in the other two classes.
i'm trying to get a job. i have enough money for the moment, but it won't last. i'm trying to get back into my old office. if it doesn't work, i may be doing fast food for a while. i got information yesterday on co-op on base and on the federal career intern program, so i'm going to look into both of those. i also need to register with career services at school.
i need to be out of my friend's house this weekend. she has people coming to visit next weekend and i'd given her a deadline of the 15th. i had a line on a house that a former coworker was willing to rent to me, but that fell through. so i need a backup plan, a couch to stay on for just a few nights, possibly. i'm going to see if i can get approved tomorrow and sign a lease.
i'm applying to graduate school. i've already gotten in here, so now i just need to apply for a teaching assistantship or tuition waivers, etc. i have an application in to colorado state as well, but i've been stuck on the statement of purpose. i have three professors willing to write me recommendations for at least a month now, but they've been waiting on me to give them more information. the package, including recommendations, is due monday. (the 15th.)
i also have to fill out the fafsa. priority deadline? the 15th.
i thought i was going to have to take summer classes. as it turns out, i'm almost done; i'm registered for spring quarter, and after that i only need one class. it's not being offered, though - the professor who teaches it just retired. i have to talk to the department head about figuring out how i can still graduate with my concentration. if i can get that done, i can graduate in june, but i need to apply for that by march 1.
dissolution paperwork is on hold. m is giving me time to sort out health insurance and stuff like that. he's paying most of the bills for now. i still need to get them transferred into his name or take his name off my stuff.
i was seeing a guy for a few months, and he was wonderful to me. but the relationship was moving much too quickly for my having *just* gotten out of my marriage. and then someone i'd had feelings for over the last couple of years came back into my life, and i had to give things a shot. that relationship is going really well so far. the other is on hiatus. we'll see what happens.
that's the news.

so the day i decide to swap a ton of music with jeff, i install updates to firefox and itunes, upon which both programs promptly decide crashing is in order. i finally got them both to stop for a few days. then i stopped caring. then i turned off my computer. once i started caring again and turned on my computer again, firefox only crashed a little. but itunes is like the anti-weeble. any weeble medication for my compy out there? anyone?
i'm supposed to play trivia tonight! i want to play trivia tonight! but i also want to go to mid-ohio to hang out with a bunch of motorcycle racers. i can do both, but i have to drive myself if i'm gonna do that. it's only a two-hour drive. the issue is just getting there after midnight. i'm not even sure i'm going to stay the entire time anyway - probably just until thursday at lunch - that's if i drive myself, of course. i'd like to get back in time for a friend's going-away at therapy cafe, so driving myself is looking better and better all the time.

looking forward to fall, trying to figure out what i actually have time for. compared with my march post, this is what i anticipate: four classes, editing and laying out a literary criticism magazine, bowling an occasional sub game on a thursday night, throwing together playlists for my weekly radio show (cutting down to one hour from two for the fall), *possibly* broadcasting play-by-play for college or maybe even high school football games (but not sure), running a couple nights of week to get in shape for when my running buddy gets back into town, going to rainbow alliance meetings since i didn't get to last year, occasionally going to quaker meeting on sundays, maybe driving to cleveland once or twice to see my family, checking in with my counselor once in a while (why would i need that again?), and being a wife, a kitty mom, and a person who would just every so often like to veg on the couch and watch mythbusters.
so i was hoping this summer would be relaxing. no such luck. it has, however, been massively entertaining. i've roamed all over the countryside of southwest ohio with a knot of friends. i've gone to the smoky mountains for our wedding anniversary (8 years) and seen old friends and old loves. i've gone to a few comedy performances and done my own stand-up once. i've flown to denver on a whim and bummed around the west with my dad for a week and a half, again seeing dear friends and much family. i've had my bff fly in for a week of no drama, complete with jungle jim's, a birthday bonfire with a kegerator, and the creation museum.
and now i'm taking two easy classes and packing to go to john's wedding in the town where my dad has lived most of my life (ergo i am staying with dad). still on the docket are baseball games, dinner with michael, trivia night at caddy's with jeff and wes at some point, trivia night at the vfw with erin and the guys from the office at some point as well, participating in an hourlong study for the promise of a $25 barnes and noble gift card, and vanilla ice in the brick quarters. no, that last part shouldn't make any sense, so don't worry if it doesn't. i reeeeeeally hope to get pictures.

speaking of pictures, that's me right now in this picture. i am experimenting with the rockabilly look today. i bought lipstick for the occasion.

hi, sorry for the long time without posting! school is out for the summer. i'm taking B-term classes, but those don't start until the end of july. so in the meantime, i plan to read a lot. my friend nine pointed me in the direction of goodreads, and i made a profile. i'm going to try linking a widgety thing over here to show what i'm currently perusing. hope this works!

sweet lemonade, i'm done with this quarter!
i swear, those last few weeks like to have done me in. depression and i were playing tug-of-war and there were a couple of times my ass sat in the sand. i have been trying to do way, way too much, i'm sure, but i have such a hard time saying no when something looks fun.
so i've been slogging my way through four classes, a full-time job squeezed into half the time, editing a literary criticism magazine, bowling on my weekly league, putting together playlists for my weekly radio show, broadcasting play-by-play for college basketball and hockey games, running a couple nights of week with my running buddy, keeping track of the clubs i'm in and can't attend because of scheduling conflicts, going to quaker meeting on sundays, driving to cleveland to see my family, flying to georgia for mike's graduation, and oh yeah running the house and taking care of myself and three cats while i was alone for five months. *and* going to counseling (gee, can't imagine why i'd need that!). i loved all of it, and i would hate to let any of it go. but something apparently had to give.
what gave was my job. trying to cram everything i had to do there into twenty hours a week wasn't working. i wasn't willing to wait longer to graduate, and i would have to if i put in the hours at my job that i needed to put in to do it right. in the end, school won out. i'm fortunate to have the opportunity to go to school right now without having to worry about feeding myself - i will thank mike every day for that - and it's worth giving up the job i've loved for three years. today was my going-away party and tomorrow is my last day. next monday will be the first day in years that i wake up with no job to go to and absolutely nothing to do but enjoy the day. i'm not sure what to do with myself.
